We have endorsed the following candidates for the November 2018 election.

MCCCD Governing Board

Maricopa County At Large - Roc Arnett

Roc has been a life-long East Valley resident and advocate for education and economic development.  He has served multiple terms as Executive Director of the East Valley Partnership and has focused on improving economic development, education, transportation, and the arts in the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Area.  Roc has been an ardent, public supporter of the Maricopa Community Colleges, particularly Mesa Community College, where he was the very first president of the MCC Student Government.

District 3  - Marie Sullivan

Marie’s career has been spent in service to others, advancing economic and workforce development.  For more than 20 years Marie served as President and CEO of Arizona Women’s Education and Employment, Inc., (AWEE) a non-profit organization dedicated to the educational and economic advancement of women in Arizona.  Marie has served on more than 25 educational, social service and faith-based boards, and has been named one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Business in Arizona and received the Jeanne Lind Herberger Award given to a woman committed to advancing the condition of women and girls through service and philanthropy.  Marie has also been awarded the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious ATHENA Award, given to a woman acknowledged for excellence in business, community service and involvement in the professional mentorship of women.

District 4  - Stan Arterberry

Stan Arterberry has dedicated his life to public higher education.  Stan retired as Chancellor of West Valley-Mission Community College District in 2008 and is currently a partner in Arterberry Blue & Associates, an educational consulting firm.  Stan has served as Dean of Student Services at Riverside City College and also as Dean of Student Services and Community Based Education at West Hills Community College. Stan was also president of Solano Community College. Stan was recognized by the Association of California Community Colleges with the Harry Buttimer Distinguished Administrator Award.

District 5  - Tom Nerini

After attending classes in the Maricopa Community College system, Tom achieved a BA in Psychology at Northern Arizona University followed by an MA in Educational Counseling, and then went on to achieve an EdD in Educational Leadership at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, British Columbia.  Tom worked extensively in K-12 and higher education across the US and Canada until he returned to Phoenix where he has served the past 10 years as an Instructional Leader and Counselor in the Phoenix Union High School District. Tom’s K-20 experience as a teacher, teaching professor, and administrator has given him unique insight into the needs of a large Community College system like ours.
